Cal Poly Performance Horse Sale Breaks Record
The student-run Cal Poly Performance Horse Sale held June 19 at the Oppenheimer Family Equine Center sold 30 horses earning $420,000 for the Cal Poly equine program. The auctioned horses were bred, foaled, and trained by Cal Poly students over a more than two-year period as part of the Quarter Horse Enterprise project. Students trained the horses to work cattle, ride on trails and perform arena work such as stops and turn-arounds. The 2020 horse sale was cancelled due to COVID-19, leading to a higher number of horses for sale than typical years. Horses sold are destined for Arizona, Texas, Idaho, Oregon, and throughout California. Unique this year, horses were auctioned off in front of a live auction that was also broadcasted online for those wishing to bid remotely.
