Cal Poly Rodeo Places Fifth in the Nation
The Cal Poly Rodeo Team was well represented with one of the largest teams in Casper, Wyoming for the College National Finals Rodeo June 9-15, with the men’s team placing fifth in the nation and the women’s team placing sixth in the nation. In all, 15 student athletes qualified to compete.
On the men’s team, Pierce Wold and Tucker Donlon, finished the week with a Reserve National Title in the team roping. Other top placing men’s qualifiers include Daniel Miranda who placed seventh overall, Leland King who placed in a round in saddle bronc riding, Kadin Javadi who placed in a round in steer wrestling, and Wyatt Wood who placed in the top 20 in bareback riding.
The women’s team was led by freshman standout Haleigh Grant, who won the second and third round in breakaway roping, ultimately placing sixth in the nation. She also earned NIRA Women’s Rookie of the Year and the Breakaway Roping Rookie of the Year. In addition, Maggie Usher placed eighth in the nation for goat tying.
