The annual Cal Poly Performance Horse Sale will take place at the Oppenheimer Family Equine Unit on Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31. All horses sold are bred, foaled and started under saddle by Cal Poly students. An early bird preview to meet the horses for sale is on May 10 from Noon to 2 p.m. with the chance to participate in a raffle fundraiser.

Cal Poly students helped host the World of Pinot Noir Tech Symposium on Feb. 25-26, setting up the tasting mats and glassware, participating in tasting and critiquing of flights and talking with industry attendees. Thomas Houseman, general manager and winemaker at Radiant Wine Company, moderated the event. Students, alongside winemakers, participated in the tasting and critique of wines identified to have problems or defects from the 2024 vintage.
Cal Poly worked in tandem with partners from the World of Pinot Noir, who organized the Tech Symposium in partnership with Cal Poly, including Coby Parker-Garcia from El Lugar Wines and Eric Johnson from Talley Vineyards.

Please join us Friday, Feb. 14 for a kick-off planning workshop for the new CAFES Farm Store, part of the Plant Sciences Complex from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Center for Wine and Viticulture, Bldg.156, 110. The college recently received a large donation that has enabled us to move forward with planning a new CAFES Farm Store. It will bring together all of the college’s food and agriculture products at a single, central campus location serving the campus and community to make available for sale fresh, campus-grown and -produced food and beverages.
We envision learning opportunities for students in the areas of food and beverage production, retail supply chain, merchandising, marketing, sales, experiential design and more. Please join us for a workshop designed to start identifying academic teaching and research opportunities and the space design needed to support them.
Snacks will be provided.

We’re excited for our annual CAFES Holiday Open House on Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Swanson Center of Effort Conference Hall, and hope you’ll join in the fun! Family and loved ones are welcome to attend; childcare will be available.

Nearly 30 students attended the Multicultural Agriculture Program Center’s first event of the quarter! A networking session with Monica Contreras from Career Services gave students the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about Cal Poly programs. CAFES Academic Advisor Maria Grando is overseeing efforts to relaunch the center.

The CAFES Connections: Fall Career Networking Event, planned for Nov. 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Swanson Center of Effort Conference Hall, is a perfect opportunity for students to meet and network with companies interested in connecting with the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences students. Students can attend this event to network and learn about full-time career, co-op, or internship opportunities, and come prepared for same-day or next-day interviews. Business attire is suggested. CAFES faculty, departments and student organizations can request a presentation with Monica Contreras-Suarez, who begins as the CAFES Career Counselor on Sept 3. To do so, use the workshop request form. Faculty can also request to embed Canvas Career Education modules into their curriculum.
First-time first-year students will continue to meet with the Freshman Focus Team. Students who are second year and above, including new transfers, will meet with Contreras-Suarez and schedule appointments through MustangJobs.
