A team of students from the Agribusiness Department, coached by Professor Marianne Wolf, did an excellent job in this year’s annual National Agri-Marketing Association student marketing competition, advancing to the semi-final round. The National Agricultural Marketing Association (NAMA) Team presented virtually. Team members included Kaitlyn De La Torre, Mickayla Pehl, Samantha Santos, Britain Traub, Phyllis Wattis, and Josh Chiero. “I was very proud of our students and honored to have worked with them,” said Wolf. A handful of colleagues from the Natural Resources Management and Environmental Sciences Department recently published a paper in the Environmental Science and Technology journal on the effects of fire retardants on soil chemistry. To read the research paper, click here.

The 26th annual Cal Poly Winemaker’s Showcase was be held Friday, May 7. This year’s virtual event, produced by students, gave supporters the opportunity to interact with students, alumni, faculty and friends from the comfort of their own home while enjoying wine and a catered to-go dinner, bid on live auction items, and hear directly from students. All funds raised support the Wine and Viticulture program and promote student success.

The Experience Industry Management Department’s annual Auction and Dinner fundraiser was held Saturday, May 8. This year’s event featured a live-streamed program produced by students and a virtual live and silent auction. Tickets were $35-$45 per household for access to the virtual program, including a special sunshine box sent prior to the event to help celebrate at home. All funds raised through the event help to develop the Experience Industry Management program and promote student success.

Online ordering for Cal Poly’s annual Tomato Spectacular plant sale, held virtually this year, started Saturday and continues until mid-May or until plants are sold out. The first week’s inventory, about 1,000 plants, sold out in less than one hour! The sale offers more than 70 different types of tomato plants, at a cost of $7 per plant. New tomato inventory for sale is uploaded to polyplantshop.com each Saturday at 9 a.m. Click here to see plant selection that will be offered starting Saturday. If you are unable to purchase your tomato selections this week, visit the website the following Saturday morning to secure your purchases. Online ordering is available at www.polyplantshop.com. Reservations will be required to pick up plants within five days of purchase. Customers can select a time from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and should plan to bring their own containers if needed. During pick up, customers are asked to wear a mask and to remain in the car. Plants will be delivered by students and staff.
